RaShelle Roberts has been up this mountain before. The local creative coach has had a hand in organizing several charity art benefits, including last May’s Stack The Deck. But Roberts is particularly excited for Who’s On Board, a benefit art auction happening this Friday night at 8 p.m. at Amanda Harris Gallery—perhaps because she’s working with the Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort, the Mount Charleston-based winter resort area that’s now in its 50th year. For Roberts, it’s like coming home.
“I grew up on that mountain,” she says. “I learned how to ski on those slopes.”
Who’s On Board features 50 snowboards custom-painted by a dream team of Valley tattoo, fine and pop surrealist artists, including KD Matheson, Biscuit Street Preacher, Serene Temple, Tiki, Mark Burns, Aaron Neiman, Miguel Rodriguez and Britney Lee Goodman (whose work is pictured above). Proceeds from the silent auction will go to the Mount Charleston Volunteer Fire Department, National Ski Patrol’s Lids on Kids & Avalanche Awareness programs, and the Outside Las Vegas Foundation.
The show heralds a huge expansion year for the Resort, one that will see the opening of several upgraded facilities, and the addition of six new chair lifts. But it all begins at Amanda Harris this Friday, where you can donate to the organizations that help make the Resort possible in the first place—and maybe walk away with a sweet, one-of-a-kind reminder of your favorite winter pastime.
“The talent in this show is stellar,” says Roberts, who’s been up this mountain enough times to know when conditions are ideal. Get a peek at some of the talent on display in the gallery below.
